Sunked - Chris White (+MCMC Spoken)

Presented by SuperSonic and Whiskers

Following on from his sold-out set at SproutSpoken’s event earlier this year, Chris White returns to Newquay with his one-man show to Whiskers for a one-off Cornwall gig, with support from Cornwall-based artist MCMC Spoken.

Chris White is raising the Titanic with Sunked – reclaiming it from Canadian billionaires and giving it back to the people. He’s doing it for England, Ireland and his Mum. He’s doing it because he doesn’t have much else to do. But he’ll soon discover the sinister truth at the heart of the Atlantic – one which might wreck everything. Combining stand-up, story telling and poems, Sunked is a spoken-word show about salvage, salvation and Celine Dion.

“Think of the self-deprecation of David Mitchell and the open expressiveness of Russel Howard and you’re halfway there” – Inter:mission, Bristol

“A zany and vibrant rapid-fire rollercoaster of a show, fuelled by White’s powerful poetic rhythm, comedic timing, and raw, open introspection” – Expose, Exeter

Based in Exeter, Chris White is a performer and poet, multiple slam winner and former Bard of Exeter. Sunked is his third full-length show following Wanderlust (From Devon With Love, 2016) and Facial (Fusion Theatre Festival, PBH Free Fringe, 2016.) His work is often dark, satirical and surreal whilst at the same time remaining funny and accessible

Cornwall-based MCMC Spoken kicks off the night with a slice of her rap-infused performance poetry. Since leaving university, MCMC Spoken has gone from strength to strength, carving out her reputation as a poet, working with local producers and rappers to make hip hop tracks, hone here freestyling skills and perform at spoken word gigs both locally and across the UK and Europe.

“Megan Chapman’s poetry is heartfelt and rhythmic. Playful and political, her Art is in the right place.” - Anna Murphy, Kneehigh Theatre
