Whiskers is excited to host Seán McGowan as part of his "Curate Calm, Create Chaos" tour to promote his brand new solo EP which is released on 1 November, 2019.

Listen to the first single from the release, ‘Silk’ here: https://youtu.be/lLilwyHiWKI

A punk, poet, and pacifist all at once, Sean’s latest collection arrives very much like an extension of the artist himself. Stepping momentarily away from the frenetic indie-punk that coursed through the veins of his acclaimed debut album ‘Son of The Smith’, Sean’s latest release instead delivers an altogether more tender and introspective listen.

After the Southampton singer-songwriter found his life suddenly turned upside down by a series of monumental changes beyond his control, he reached into his soul and found these five new songs: ‘I’m OK’, ‘Heart Breaker’, ‘Silk’, ‘Money’ and ‘Queen of The West’. Now compiled as his ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ EP, together the tracks spin a deeply personal narrative that charts Sean’s journey as he navigated his way through these stormy waters.

Opening up about the ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ EP, Sean says:

“‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ was born from a particularly turbulent time in my life. A string of events knocked me for Six. I identified five of the causes and used them as the foundations for songs. I always try to write honestly and personally. I feel like the only way someone could relate or engage with my music is if it's 100% the truth. CCCC is about being self aware enough to accept things aren't right and trying your hardest to fix ‘em."

His first new material to emerge since his debut album last year, ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ is subdued and stripped-back, raw and reflective, and together illuminate Sean’s songwriting talents going from strength to strength.

In support of the new release, Sean will be hitting the road for a series of UK & Irish gigs throughout the Autumn.

Poet, songwriter and dedicated touring artist, to many - Sean McGowan - is already a familiar face. Breaking out of the Southampton scene and snapped up by Xtra Mile Recordings, Sean has since toured all over the world with friends and Xtra Mile family Skinny Lister, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and Will Varley, as well as fellow working-class heroes Billy Bragg and The Levellers. Along the way, Sean has played crowd-winning sets to the folk of major festivals the likes of Glastonbury, 2000 Trees, Camden Rocks, Truck and beyond, whilst also playing a huge main stage at the legendary Camden Roundhouse as one of the main supports at Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings II.

Channelling smart wordplay through a clash of tunes both melancholic and riotous, Sean released his acclaimed debut album 'Son of the Smith’ in 2018 and now follows it in 2019 with his latest release: ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’.

The Scribes are a new wave hip hop three-piece consisting of co-lyricists Ill Literate and Jonny Steele and beatbox maestro, who's unique talents have combined to make a much heralded sound quite unlike any other.

The Scribes debut, The Evolution EP, was released in 2005 on CD, Vinyl and iTunes through independent label Unsung Records, and the resulting tour saw them play Blade's album launch at Cargo in London, and headline events from The Metaponto Beach Festival in Italy to student unions and nightclubs across the UK.

The Scribes first full-length album, “The Sky is Falling”, was unleashed in 2009 to high praise from a variety of media, both local and national, including The Metro, BBC Radio, Music Week Magazine, 24-7 Magazine, Venue Magazine and Hip Hop Connection.
The album pushed the limits of hip hop to almost breaking point, both musically and lyrically, showcasing the group's trademark sound featuring traditional hip hop samplying as well as live instrumentation, a far cry from the stereotypical loop based “bling and gunz” fraternity.
The 14-track LP is available on I-Tunes, Play, Amazon and all major online outlets as well as retailers across the UK.

The group have performed extensively across the UK and beyond with artists such as GZA from Wu Tang Clan, Example, Plan B, Prof Green, Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Ugly Duckling, MF Doom, Pendulum, Magnetic Man, Westwood, Stereo MCs, Chase and Status, RA the Rugged Man, Macklemore, Dels, Estelle, Wiley, Roll Deep, Goldfinger, Foreign Beggars, Phi-Life Cypher, Skinnyman, Mr Thing, Ray Keith, Ed Case and MC Lars, and have provided original music for BBC and Channel 4 television programming.

Following the success of “A Story All About How” The Scribes are currently working on their new album. Through side projects, 2017 they dropped the live band assisted hip hop and funk EP 'Bison Theory' as well as an 8 track post apocolytic hip-hopera titled 'Mr Teatime and the End of the World' on Reel Me Records.
2015 saw the release of “A Story All About How”, a sonically challenging 16 track album that thrives on a perfected blend of poignant lyricism bolstered beautifully by a backdrop of constantly evolving instrumentation.
Their newest material promises to be a defining release for The Scribes and the face of UK hip hop, having already been well received from Camden's prestigious Jazz Cafe to the group's stand-out performances at Glastonbury Festival and Beach Break, earning the group a mention in NME's “Glastonbury Guide” and Venue Magazine's “30 best live shows at Glastonbury”.

The Scribes are one of the most talented up and coming artists on the scene and are hotly tipped to “step up to the big league at any time”, their genuinely unique sound is something you really have to hear for yourself, with appeal ranging far beyond the traditional hip hop fare, and is backed up by live performances proven to move any crowd.

Be sure to check out the group live whenever possible as it's guaranteed to be a massive performance the likes of which you've never seen before, featuring the most phenomenal freestyling in the uk and more energy than's sensible! Keep checking back here for the latest releases, online exclusives and gig news, and help spread the word on underground music, tell a friend to tell a friend!

Penny Eyes Live (Indie)

Penny Eyes aim to deliver all the infatuating riffs, big choruses, punchy guitar tones and alluring basslines that were iconic to their 90’s British pop rock idols such as Oasis and The Verve, combined with a refreshing songwriting style that can only come from growing up in your not so average British seaside town.

The relatable subjects tangled up in each song represents a new generation in today’s complicated society groups. Penny Eyes sing of hope and chaos, of love and loss, all wrapped up in a tightly cohesive outfit. With their unique interpretation of punchy indie rock with the likes of The Kooks and The Strokes that flooded their highly seasonal youth and recent acts like Sam Fender, this year they are set to make waves.

Their second EP 'How Do You Feel?' is OUT NOW with 4 brand new tracks.
